What is Vision Therapy?

When and Why is it Needed?

Vision therapy is a doctor-supervised (behavioral optometrist), non-surgical and customized program of visual activities designed to correct certain vision problems and/or improve visual skills.

It is like physical therapy for the eyes, teaching you to coordinate your eyes with each other as well as with your hands, body and brain.

In a vision therapy program, instruments, special lenses and exercises are used to give feedback if your eyes are working correctly or incorrectly. These guide you to unlearn poor seeing habits and develop correct ones.

In time, you’ll learn to see more quickly, accurately, and comfortably on a second-nature basis.

Vision therapy is a highly effective non-surgical treatment for many common visual problems such as lazy eye, crossed eyes, double vision, convergence insufficiency and some reading and learning disabilities.

Many people think that vision therapy is only for children. However, adults have as much need for this type of vision care as children. Vision Therapy is often more effective for adults because they are usually more motivated to improve their visual abilities, whereas children may not understand that they have a problem or how that problem may affect their interests or future.

Many people have visual problems sustaining near-centered work, including reading, writing, and computer use. When people have trouble using both eyes together or can’t focus for great lengths of time, they do not simply grow out of these problems. Sadly children with visual problems often become adults with visual problems.

This website is designed to provide information and reading material for Adults and Adults of children who have issues with their vision to empower themselves to seek further help from the many trained professionals in the field of Vision Therapy.

Wishing you the very best in Vision.
